Biography
Daniel McVicar is a Director for the White House Writers Group where he primarily works on agriculture issues. He has experience conducting CFIUS clearance processes for the State Department's Office of Investment Affairs. He also worked as a Staff Assistant and Researcher for Member of European Parliament Jan Zahradil in Strasbourg, France. In this role, he researched party and national voting positions for plenary sessions, and translated documents between Czech, French, and English.
Daniel is a Strategic Studies Masters graduate from the University of St Andrews. His dissertation focuses on interstate geopolitical conflict in the Arctic region. Daniel also holds a BA in Economics and International Studies from the College of the Holy Cross.
Daniel’s writing focuses on Arctic and Central European energy security. Daniel is a monthly contributor to the Jamestown Foundation’s Eurasia Daily Monitor and to Global Risk Insights. He is published in the Council on Foreign Relations and Inside Sources and his piece on Risk Factors for Svalbard Conflict between Russia and Norway was cited in the Congressional Research Service Report on the Arctic.
Daniel serves as a mentor for The Fund for American Studies helping match college students with work and internship experience in the foreign policy scene in DC. In his free time, Daniel enjoys Alpine Skiing, Muay Thai, and amateur blacksmithing.
